8 Common Winter Beauty Mistakes and How to Fix Them

As we’ve mentioned before, beauty is different in the winter! The air, wind, lack of sunshine, and holiday stress all take a toll on your skin and body unlike any other season. Because of this, beauty mistakes are extremely common since a lot of people forget to change their beauty routine when entering the winter months. Here are some common winter beauty mistakes and what you can do to fix them:

Mistake #1 – You’re taking long, hot showers.

When it’s freezing outside, nothing seems more appealing than a nice, long, hot shower. However, using hot water for any longer then about 10 minutes will dry out your skin immensely. During the winter, you should try and keep the water temperature down or take shorter showers.

Mistake #2 – You’re using the wrong lip conditioner or none at all.

Have dry, chapped lips? Don’t skip out on lip conditioners, but make sure you’re choosing the right one! Most lip balms are waxy and scented, which isn’t good for your lips. Mistake #3 – You’re using foundation on dry, flakey skin.

It doesn’t matter what brand you use or how expensive the foundation is, if you try and put it on dry, flakey skin it will never look as amazing as you want it to! The foundation will actually highlight your problem areas because it will stick to them. To fix this, make sure you hydrate and moisturize your skin every single day! When applying liquid makeup, try mixing it with a small drop of moisturizer as well. Additionally, foundations with dewy finishes may be the best choice instead of matte during the cold season.

Mistake #4 – You’re not using SPF.

The sun still affects your skin during the winter. Choose a foundation/face product with SPF to be sure you’re protected every day!

Mistake #5 – You’re dehydrated.

Since it is common to workout less and sweat less during the winter, it is also common to not drink as much water, which can lead to dehydration. Staying hydrated is important foy your entire body, especially your skin! Carry a large water bottle around with you each day and make it a goal to drink the entire thing (or two or three bottles depending on the size) before you go to bed.

Mistake #6 – You’re neglecting your hands and feet.

It’s easy to forget about what the weather can do to your hands and feet, but once they get dry and cracked it can cause you a lot of discomfort. Protect them by always wearing gloves and socks when going outside. You can also add a few drops of our Ultra Replenishing Oil before putting them on to help keep your skin moisturized.

Mistake #7 – You’re forgetting to exfoliate.

It may seem like exfoliating during the winter will enhance dryness, but this isn’t the case! Over-exfoliating will definitely dry out your skin, but exfoliating once or twice a week will help remove the dead, dry skin that is sitting on the surface of your face that causes clogged pores and dull looking skin.

Mistake #8 – You’re not using waterproof makeup.

A lot of women save waterproof makeup for days that they go swimming, to the gym, the club, or any event where they know they’ll be sweating or want long lasting makeup. But what about when you walk into the cold air and your eyes start watering – ruining your perfect eye look!? Make sure to use waterproof makeup anytime you’ll be heading out into that cold, blistering weather.
