by Shopify API |

Yes, your nutrition and fitness are important, but so is your mental health! Your 50s can be some of the best years of your life if you focus on your happiness. If you’re discouraged about your age, dealing with a tough situation, or even just lost about where you are in life, we want to help! Here are our best tips for finding and/or keeping happiness in your 50s. Remember – a smile is the prettiest thing you can wear!

Nurture Your Relationships

Spend more time with those you love. Work will always be there. You can finish that laundry tomorrow. Those dishes will get done another day. However, the people in your life might not always be around. When you make time for your friends and family your life will feel fuller and you will have people to share your life experiences with.

Go After What You Want- No Matter How Crazy It Seems

Want to go back to college? Fly to another country? Quit your job and move somewhere new? Do it!! You’re never too old to start over or do something you love. Regret will take a toll on your happiness, so do what your heart desires – NOW!

Harvard’s Women’s Health Watch found that adults over the age of 50 who volunteered were less likely to develop high blood pressure than those who did not. They also stated that studies have shown how volunteering helps people ward of loneliness and depression. By helping others it will really help you find your purpose in life and feel better about who you are and how you’re making a difference.

Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

You will live a life full of unhappiness if you are constantly comparing yourself to others. Everyone has a different journey in life, so spend your time enjoying the journey you have been given! If we all looked the same, felt the same, and thought the same, this world would be boring! We need variety, and we all have amazing characteristics about us. Focus on those!!

Know That It’s OK To Ask For Help

A lot of times, people are afraid to reach out for help if they are feeling severely anxious or depressed. However, seeking help is actually one of the best things you can do! I know a lot of happy individuals and couples who go to therapists on a regular basis just to keep their mind healthy! Talking about your problems is much better than bottling them up. So, don’t be afraid to seek out a therapist or good, family friend when you’re feeling overwhelmed or unhappy!
